About

A Brief Introduction to Me

Meet Ryan

Ryan Berman is a two-term state representative who won a landslide re-election race in 2020 despite Joe Biden winning the contested swing district and record-setting spending by his democratic opponent.

Ryan is a married father of two and life-long Michigan resident. Growing up in West Bloomfield, he learned about public service from his uncle, State Representative and State Senator, David Honigman. This experience helped instill in him the desire to use his abilities to help people and make things better for his community. He is a graduate of Detroit Country Day School, Michigan State University, and Wayne State University Law School.

Eager to begin his career as an Attorney, Ryan graduated early from Wayne State University Law School. After “auto-passing” the Michigan Bar exam, scoring in the top 2% nationally, he was admitted and licensed to practice law in the several courts of the State of Michigan, as well as the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Ryan is also a member of the Florida Bar, and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

Ryan has an extensive background in law enforcement and community service. He was a Special Deputy with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department throughout law school, attending numerous advanced police trainings to further his knowledge and skill set. Naturally he interned with the Felony Trial Division of the Wayne County Prosecutor’s office, and became a Special Prosecutor while living in Florida.

The Oakland County Board of Commissioners appointed Ryan as an alternate member when they created their Criminal Justice Coordinating Council. He was subsequently reappointed the following 2-year term. Furthermore, the President of the Florida Bar appointed him to the Traffic Court Rules Committee of the Florida Bar, which directly advises the Supreme Court of Florida. He was also appointed to the Criminal Jurisprudence & Practice Committee of the State Bar of Michigan, and is currently a Reserve Police Officer and acts as a legal advisor to a local Police Department.

Ryan was also a Charter Member of the International Law Enforcement Educators & Trainers Association, being a Firearms Instructor, Range Safety Officer, and Use of Force Instructor. Certified to teach concealed pistol classes, he also teaches the legal portion to other instructors, and lectures on the law of self-defense. With an extensive background in wrestling, jiu-jitsu and judo, Ryan helps teach police officers how to avoid ground fighting, and to stay safe in such situations.
